HIGH-QUALITY KHMER LANGUAGE TRAINING COURSE FOR FOREIGNERS
This training course in the Khmer language is unique in three ways. First, the training course is well-structured, with clear aims using interpersonal communication to achieve learners’ objectives. The learners will practice four main skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing, in order to communicate effectively in real-life situations. The materials include a lot of clear and interesting pictures that can help the learners understand the meaning effectively. More importantly, the pictures are used as prompts for dialogues that can help the learners produce new language confidently in less time in each practice stage. The materials cover a variety of tasks to approach each topic; they are well laid out from easy to more challenging. In addition, learning the concepts of the Khmer language in a practical context with relevant materials is the best way for learners to achieve their objectives.
Finally, the training course provides the opportunity for the learners to practice the new language at every stage to improve accuracy and fluency. To have fun, the learners will do role-play, pair-work, group work and games to promote language application using prompts and patterns. These activities help them build confidence and apply the language in real life. First they form single simple sentences in dialogue, then they combine all the sentences in a meaningful way for oral and written reports. Participating in the learning process and practicing what they’ve learned keeps students engaged and interested. Moreover, based on the different activities and tasks the learners’ progress can be evaluated clearly and accurately.
In conclusion, this Khmer language training course is unique in three ways. Mr. Meng Seng Heng is an experienced Cambodian teacher trainer. Trained by the Cambodian Secondary English Teaching (CAMSET) project, and he also received overseas training in the United Kingdom (UK) and in the USA. He was also trained by the U.S. Embassy and the Mekong Private Development Facility (MPDF) in Phnom Penh. He graduated at the Royal University of Phnom Penh as Bachelor of Education (Bed) degree.
Mr. Meng is a professional trainer with extensive experience in language training programmes. Currently, he has designed and developed Khmer and English languages training, and regularly customizes training programs for specific needs. He has delivered a variety of Khmer language training programs for Cambrew LTD, Comin Khmer, Australian Volunteers International (AVI) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Australia, Global LT, Cambodian Disabled People Organization (CDPO) and Premium Auto (BMW) and was a part-time Khmer language teacher at the International School of Phnom Penh (ISPP).
