Position Summary The Barista Manager is responsible for leading a team of baristas to deliver an exceptional coffee experience. This role combines technical coffee expertise with operational leadership. You will be responsible for maintaining quality standards, managing staff schedules, controlling inventory, and fostering a positive, high-energy environment for both staff and guests. Key Responsibilities 1. Operations & Quality Control • Drink Excellence: Dial in espresso recipes daily and ensure all beverages meet the shop’s flavor and presentation standards. • Efficiency: Optimize workflow behind the bar to minimize wait times during peak hours. • Cleanliness: Maintain a rigorous cleaning schedule for espresso machines, grinders, and guest areas in compliance with health safety regulations. 2. Team Leadership & Development • Training: Onboard new hires and provide ongoing sensory and technical training (milk steaming, latte art, brewing methods). • Scheduling: Create and manage weekly staff rosters, ensuring labor costs stay within budget. • Performance: Conduct regular check-ins with staff, provide constructive feedback, and resolve interpersonal conflicts. 3. Financial & Inventory Management • Ordering: Manage relationships with roasters and vendors to order coffee, milk, and paper goods. • Waste Tracking: Monitor and reduce waste to maintain healthy profit margins. • Reporting: Track daily sales trends and report key performance indicators (KPIs) to ownership. 4. Customer Experience • Service: Lead by example on the floor, handling difficult customer situations with grace and professionalism. • Community: Build rapport with "regulars" and ensure the shop atmosphere remains welcoming and on-brand. Required Skills & Qualifications • Experience: 2+ years of professional barista experience; 1+ years in a supervisory or management role. • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of espresso extraction, milk chemistry, and manual brewing (V60, Chemex, etc.). • Leadership: Proven ability to motivate a team and hold staff accountable. • Soft Skills: High emotional intelligence, excellent communication, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 40 lbs (e.g., milk crates or coffee sacks).
